Sydney Food Diary: Cuckoo Callay, Surry Hills

Cuckoo Callay settles nicely into the spot left behind by the Ampersand Cafe. It’s a perfect location, I think. Right next to the lovely open space next to the Surry Hills Library, usually catching the sun and the buzz of everyone walking past, hanging out, doing their groceries and going for coffee in Surry Hills.

The menu is engaging and intriguing and I could have ordered pretty much anything. It’s Surry Hills prices… ahem… but don’t think about that. Instead I could highly recommend the rice pudding I had, a perfectly composed and Instagram-ready dish (and usually I got for savoury, so this was unusual for me to go sweet). Note the flowers, the crumble and the deep-fried noodles! Kate was happy with her amped up poutine, not really how the Quebecois would do it, but tasty nonetheless she said.
