Anthologies

My short fiction has been published in many anthologies since 1993. Arsenal Pulp Press published the first gay short fiction collection in Canada, and their subsequent anthologies contributed to the development of gay writing and literature in Canada–including my own. Special thanks here to Brian Lam, publisher, for all that he’s accomplished, as well as to James Johnstone, whose editing of the “Quickies” series lead me into the Best Gay Erotica series, which, with thanks to Richard Labonté, lead me to the publication of my collection of gay erotica. After arriving in Australia, I’ve made it into a few Australian anthologies too. I don’t publish much these days, but I’m proud of what I’ve achieved, have enjoyed meeting fellow writers who’ve appeared in the anthologies, and am thankful to the various editors that have selected my stories and helped shape them into better forms.

Books listed should be available through their publishers or online at your favourite bookstore. Ask if ye cannot find…

“Ants”

Strike the Wok: Anthology of Contemporary Chinese Canadian Fiction

Edited by Jim Wong-Chu and Lien Chao
Short Fiction
ISBN: 1-894770-09-9
Toronto: Tsar Publications (2003)

“…the stories succeed or fail on their literary merits, not their Chinese-ness… Among the successes: Andy Quan’s “Ants” makes no overt references to anything Asian but deals with the relationship between two gay men, Jerry and Mick. Again, the quality of the writing sets this story apart, as well as its sweet romantic tone — it seems odd that gay writers are more willing to write warmly about love than straight writers, who seem obsessed with gender conflict.” – Toronto Star
